BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 A.M.) – On Friday, the Iraqi forces announced the launch of the “Revenge of the Martyrs” operation to clear the areas in the capital, Baghdad, and the rest of the provinces from the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) terrorist organization.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, announced on his official Twitter page: “Under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kazemi , the ‘Revenge of the Martyrs’ operation targeting the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs was launched at dawn today, Friday.”
Rasul added, “The Counter-Terrorism Service managed to topple a number of terrorists in the Bab al-Moazam areas in Baghdad, Ameriyat al-Fallujah, and Kirkuk governorate.”
The he Ministerial Council for Iraqi National Security on Friday held a session headed by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, against the backdrop of the Baghdad bombings .
On Thursday morning, two Islamic State suicide bombers targeted the central part of the capital, killing 32 civilians and wounding over 100 others.
The following day, the Islamic State announced responsibility for the attacks, as they boasted about the suicide bombings through their official media wing.
