BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:25 P.M.) – An Iraqi court sentenced a French woman to life in prison for her alleged links to the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), the AFP News Agency reported this morning.
According to the AFP report, the French national Melina Boughedir was given a life prison term after it was found that she entered Iraq to join ISIS.
“I am innocent,” Boughedir told the judge in French, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“My husband duped me and then threatened to leave with the children,” she added.
Boughedir was previously sentenced to seven months in prison in February for entering the country illegally; however, prior to her deportation, she was given a retrial, which resulted in the Iraqi court giving her a life prison term.
