The Iraqi Army, backed by the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd Al-Sha’abi) and Federal Police, liberated the Al-Shuhada District of Fallujah city on Wednesday after losing this area to the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) over the weekend.
Following the liberation of the Al-Shuhada District, the Iraqi Armed Forces launched a surprise attack at the northern flank of Fallujah city, where they attempted to enter the Joulan District from their positions at Mukhtar.

In addition to this attack on the Joulan District, the Iraqi Armed Forces also advanced further east along the Euphrates River, liberating several sites near the Al-Saqlawiyah District that is situated directly west of Fallujah city.
ISIS is on the verge of being completely surrounded at Fallujah, as the Iraqi Armed Forces close-in on the last remaining districts outside the city.
