Baghdad, Iraq (10:00 A.M.) – The Iraqi Army, backed by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), conducted a cleansing operation in the northwestern countryside of Al-Ramadi on Wednesday, clearing several hideouts that belonged to the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

According to Major General Qassim Al-Mohammadi, the Iraqi Armed Forces killed 11 members of the Islamic State during this operation, while also destroying a number trenches setup by the aforementioned terrorist group in the Al-Ramadi countryside.

The Iraqi Army’s military operation focused on the Al-Khalidiyah Island and desert area of Al-Anbar; this region still has small pockets of resistance, despite the Islamic State’s collapse near the Euphrates River.

For the most part, the Islamic State forces are either confined to an isolated part of northeast Al-Anbar or the Syrian border; this has allowed for the Iraqi Army to comfortably shift their attention north towards Mosul.
