BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:40 P.M.) – The repatriation move by an Arab League member took place on Wednesday when Iraq took hold of over 150 Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh).
According to a report from Syria’s Deir Ezzor Governorate, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) turned over the 150+ ISIS fighters to Iraq after a meeting with the former this week.
Iraq was the second Arab League state after Tunisia to agree to repatriate the captured Islamic State fighters.
However, while Tunisia has agreed to take back their citizens, they have yet to make any effort to repatriate these captured Islamic State members.
Iraq is expected to take back more Islamic State fighters in the coming weeks, as a lot of Iraqi nationals are currently imprisoned inside Syria.
