BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:30 P.M.) – Iraq has started to build a security fence along its border with Syria, in a bid to bar militants of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL) from entering the country.
The footage filmed near the town of Jurf Al Nasr on Monday, shows ongoing construction works along the border.
At the end of last year, Baghdad declared that the country was completely liberated from IS after Iraqi troops retook control of the Iraqi-Syrian border area.
However, IS still reportedly controls some pockets of territory in the deserts of eastern Syria, which is believed to enable militants to carry out attacks on Iraq.
