BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:30 P.M.) – The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC) began disinfection operations aimed at combating the coronavirus in Tehran on Wednesday, as part of a nationwide biological defence exercise.
The military manoeuvres are being carried out in 3,000 locations across the country amid fears among the government that the COVID-19 outbreak may be a biological attack orchestrated by the US; a theory that was expounded upon by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday.
On Tuesday, the Islamic Republic rejected aid provided by Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian organisation.
Iran is one of the hardest hit countries by the pandemic in the world.
More than 2,000 people have died of coronavirus in the country so far and more than 27,000 are confirmed to be infected.
