A senior officer from the Iranian Army inside Syria has been confirmed dead by Iranian military officials: General Hussein Al-Hamadani was reportedly killed in an automobile accident while traveling along the Khanasser Highway to the provincial capital of the Aleppo Governorate on Thursday.
Iranian State TV confirmed the news of his death on Thursday night; however, the information regarding his death was not released until Friday morning by Al-Mayadeen TV.
General Hussein Al-Hamadani was set to oversee the east Aleppo offensive to lift the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) two year long siege of the Kuweires Military Airport inside the Deir Hafer Plains.
The Iranian General was responsible for recruiting and organizing the men for this east Aleppo offensive that was reportedly supposed to restart in the coming days; it is likely to be postponed now that the primary strategist behind the attack has been killed in an automobile accident.
This news in Aleppo comes just 72 hours after a large convoy of reinforcements from an Iraqi Shi’i militia and the National Defense Forces (NDF) arrived to the Al-Safira District of east Aleppo.
General Hussein Al-Hamadani was one of the highest ranking officers in the Iranian Army’s Revolutionary Guard Command before his untimely death.
