BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:40 P.M.) – The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani told his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev that if Israel strikes Syria again, his nation will issue a ‘regrettable’ reaction.
“The Zionist regime is seeking to stabilize crisis in Syria and has taken measures in direct support of terrorist groups and for hitting the Syrian army and the forces fighting against terrorism,” Shamkhani said, as quoted by Tansim News Agency.
Shamkhani’s comments come just ten days after the Israeli Air Force carried out a devastating attack in western Syria.
During the Israeli attack, the Syrian military fired an S-200 air defense missile at the enemy F-16; however, it struck a Russian IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft.
Russia found that the Israeli F-16 used the IL-20 as cover, which ultimately resulted in its downing off the coast of Latakia.
