Moments ago, enraged Iranian university students set fire to the Saudi embassy near Mashhad, in condemnation over the execution of Saudi-Shia Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. Many students breached the fence adjacent to the embassy to throw Molotov cocktails towards the Saudi consulate. While preliminary reports claim the building was burned down, this remains unclear at the moment.

Early this morning, Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry announced that Nimr had been executed. Nimr al-Nimr was arrested for treason after he called for elections to be held for the secession of Saudi Arabia’s eastern province which is predominately Shia Muslim.

No such thing as a “holy country”, you probably mean a country that contains holy sites.

There’s a difference, a holy country should itself holy, no such country exists, if a country having holy sites makes it a “holy country” then you’d see atleast Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran reffered to as holy country atleast by shi’ites.

A bad tactical error by the al-Sauds. It would be interesting to know if King Salman and/or his hot-head son were solely responsible for giving the execution order, or if outside interests told the al-Sauds “we’ve got your back – go ahead”. Either way, it’s more trouble in the Middle East, coincidentally, at a time when the war in Syria started to look like it may be settled within a few months.

The sheik was prosecuted as a traitor for critically speaking out against the Saudi monarchy. Now for those who do not know how this is is done, look up Chop Chop Square which has been named as such for it’s barbaric ways of chopping off body parts. In this instance it was death by decapitation. There’s also a huge rift between the Shiite and Sunni Muslims that is actually the basis to all… Read more »
