BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 P.M.) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday that Iran’s primary purpose for attaining nuclear weapons is to destroy Israel.
“Two days ago Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of Iran, said he intends to destroy Israel. Yesterday, he explained how he wants to do it — with unlimited uranium enrichment to create a nuclear arsenal,” Netanyahu told an audience of journalists.
Netanyahu then added that he will never allow Iran to obtain these weapons, which is similar to his past comments on the matter.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz told reporters that Israel would seek to form a military coalition to take out Iran’s nuclear weapons, should they continue their uranium enrichment program.
Iran maintains that their uranium enrichment program has nothing to do with obtaining a nuclear weapon, despite repeated accusations by the U.S. and Israeli governments.
