BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:55 A.M.) – The Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Bahram Ghasemi, called on Turkey, Monday, to end their two and a half week long offensive in the Afrin region of northern Syria.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi made the remarks in his weekly press conference on Monday, adding “Ankara needs to reconsider its policy on [Afrin].”
“The continuation of Turkey’s military operation will facilitate the return of instability and terrorism to Syria,” Ghasemi continued.
Ghasemi urged Turkey to continue their role in the peace process and to help bring stability to the war-torn country.
On Jan. 20, Turkey launched ‘Operation Olive Branch’, its second major military intervention in Syria since 2011, in a bid to eliminate the US-backed YPG, which Ankara views as a terror organization as well as the Syrian branch of the outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK).
