HOMS, SYRIA (0:45 A.M.) – On Thursday afternoon, units of Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps alongside National Defense Forces (NDF) continued their military operations against so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” (ISIS) in east Homs countryside.

Following heavy clashes that broke out in the morning, government forces penetrated ISIS defenses and consequently captured point 968 northwest of Dab’a Al-Mleha and points 881, 876 west of Al-Mushirah Al-Janoubiyah.

At least 15 ISIS militants were killed in the clashes. Besides, Syrian military managed to destroy 4 pickup trucks mounted with ZSU-23-2 automatic anti-aircraft guns.

In the meantime, ISIS launched a counter-attack of their own targeting several points in Al-Shumariyah Mountains that were captured by SAA yesterday. After intense firefights that continued for a couple of hours, Army units had completely repelled the assault inflicting casualties among attackers in the process.

Military correspondents embedded with SAA in east Homs published a video footage of Thursday’s clashes at Shumariyah Mountains:
