El presidente turco, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, está tratando vigorosamente de cambiar la estructura de poder en el país, con el objetivo de alcanzar el monopolio pleno e indiscutible del poder.

Con objeto de lograrlo, fuentes bien informadas afirmaron que Erdogan pretende cesar por completo la posición del primer ministro, y, eventualmente, a su ex mejor amigo y ayudante, Ahmet Davutoglu.

Las fuentes informaron de una serie de reuniones celebradas recientemente en el Palacio Presidencial sobre la forma de deponer a Davutoglu, a quien se ha pedido directamente que abandone voluntariamente el cargo.

Al menos dos de los ayudantes más importantes de Davutoglu asistieron a las reuniones.

El empuje contra el veterano diplomático está asociado con una agresiva campaña en varios medios de comunicación pro-Erdogan.

De acuerdo con la constitución turca, el Presidente tiene un papel en mayor medida ceremonial, mientras que la mayoría de los poderes del ejecutivo son ejercidos por el Primer Ministro y el Consejo de Ministros.

Sin embargo, un cambio notable ha tenido lugar desde que Erdogan ascendió a la presidencia en agosto de 2014.

Los opositores acusan a Erdogan de ayudar a los islamistas en el mundo árabe a tomar el poder, de armar y financiar a los grupos extremistas que luchan presidente Bashar al-Assad en Siria, y, posteriormente, a reactivar las fantasías sobre el Imperio Otomano.
