BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:15 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army broke-through Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham’s (formerly Al-Nusra Front) defenses at the outskirts of ‘Ayn Al-Fijeh tonight after a long battle in the Wadi Barada area of rural Damascus.
Led by the 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault in Wadi Barada on Sunday evening after civilians were safely escorted from the area by the Syrian Red Crescent Society.
The Syrian Army’s entry into ‘Ayn Al-Fijeh tonight marks the first time in several years that the government forces have a presence inside this imperative located just north of the jihadist-controlled towns of Al-Zabadani and Madaya.
As long as the jihadist rebels control the Wadi Barada area, they will dictate the water flow to over 5 million civilians living in-and-around the Syrian capital city of Damascus.
