On Thursday morning, the Al-Qaeda linked “Al-Nusra Front” – in cooperation with Jaysh Al-Mujahedeen – attempted to infiltrate the 11th Tank Division of the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) frontline defenses at the eastern perimeter of the Abu Al-Dhuhour Military Airport – the attack would come from the nearby village of Al-Hamidiyyeh.

Initially, the Al-Nusra Front militants were able to progress as close as 50 meters from the airport; however, the attack was repelled by the 11th Tank Division after they overpowered the enemy combatants with a barrage of gunfire and artillery shells.

According to a military source, at least 20 Al-Nusra Front fighters were killed during the battle, including ‘Adnan Moussa Al-Iskendar and ‘Ali Malik Al-Ghareeb. The 11th Tank Division reported 6 soldiers killed and 13 wounded during the confrontation with the Al-Nusra Front.

A prominent member of the Al-Nusra Front – Mustafa Al-Sameh (AKA “Al-Alham”) was killed at the village of Rouma by the 11th Tank Division during a fierce firefight.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
