Former residents were seen returning to the Bustan al-Qasr neighbourhood in east Aleppo, Saturday, two days after the spokesperson of the General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces declared that government forces had regained full control over Aleppo.
Prior to the war in Syria, east Aleppo was home to some 400,000 civilians; however, due to the ongoing conflict, many were forced to either move to different provinces or seek refuge in neighboring countries.
The Syrian Government estimates that rebuilding the once thriving east Aleppo neighborhoods will cost $800 billion (U.S.), which is almost twice the price of rebuilding large parts of Homs City that were destroyed during the war.
More civilians are expected to return to their homes in east Aleppo in the coming days, as demining teams from the Syrian Army and Russian military conclude their operations.
