Houthi rebel fighters said they used armed drones for the first time to conduct attacks against several targets in Saudi Arabia as the latter escalated airstrikes against the war-torn country.

The operational Abha airport in Assir province, as well as the Saudi oil giant Aramco in Jizan were hit by the drones.

“The air force announced the execution of air strikes with the Qasef-1 aircraft on Aramco in Jizan (province)”, the Houthis’ al-Masirah TV Channel said on its Twitter account.

Saudi Aramco operates a 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Jizan, part of a new economic city on the Red Sea.

It was also reported that all flights in Abha airport were cancelled following the attack.

Technical features of Qasef-1; the drones used by the Houthis:

Length of body: 250 cm

Length of wing: 300 cm

Time of flight: 120 minutes

Range: 150 km

Type of engine: gasoline fueled

Warhead load: 30 kg
