DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:31 P.M.) – As the infighting between the Houthis and Saleh’s Republican Guard takes a turn to the worst, the former seem to be regaining the initiative dominating much of Sana’a and its surroundings.

In a matter of a day, Houthi Forces and their tribal allies were able to recapture the strategic city of Hijja located northwest of Sana’a along the perilous supply line between the capital and Sa’adah- the Houthi’s main stronghold in the nation. The former were also able to seize Base 48 in Sana’a after grappling with some of Saleh’s forces.

In a parallel development, the most prominent figures and Sheikhs of Dhammar province announced their uncontested support to the Yemeni Army and the Houthis in their fight against what they termed “Saleh’s treason” in a mass conference.

Fighting has now dissipated to other places in Yemen as Saleh’s forces managed to expel the Houthis from Bayda province, who in turn deployed their units to the strategic port city of Hudayda bracing for a potential assault by Saleh on the final port remaining under their dominion in the starved country.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
