Moments ago inside the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), Hezbollah, and several Iraqi paramilitary units – imposed full control over the village of Kafr Naya after 72 hour long battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen.

For 3 straight days, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies attempted to break-through the Islamist rebel defenses at the village of Kafr Naya; however, the opposition forces were able to fend off the advance for the better part of 2 day before their fortifications finally collapsed.

Kafr Naya is strategically located directly south of the Islamist stronghold of Tal Rifa’at in northern Aleppo; if captured, they will be within striking distance of the Mennagh Military Airport that the predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) are attempting to seize at the moment.

However, it is very unlikely the Syrian Armed Forces push further north; instead, they will likely advance east towards the rebel stronghold of Mar’e, where they will circle the remaining Islamist-held villages and cut them off from their main supply route that flows through the city of ‘Azaz.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

Yes, but Islamic State are making gains as well, and are creating a bottleneck at the Central Prison.
