The Syrian Arab Army’s 63rd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division has returned to the western slopes of the Qalamoun Mountains after a short hiatus to help liberate the strategic city of Quraytayn in the Homs Governorate’s southeastern countryside.

On Saturday morning, the 63rd Brigade – backed by Hezbollah and Dara’ Qalamoun (Qalamoun Shield) – launched a surprise assault at Jaroud Jarajeer in the Qalamoun Mountains, targeting the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) positions near the strategic border-crossing into Lebanon.

According to a military source in Damascus City, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah have killed several enemy combatants so far, including a large number of foreign fighters from the terrorist group.

The purpose of this offensive by the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah is to alleviate the pressure applied by ISIS on the Dumayr Military Airport, which is located at the eastern slopes of the Qalamoun Mountains.

Moreover, if the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah are successful in retaking the Jarajeer border-crossing into Jaroud ‘Arsal, they will control almost all of the Lebanese border.
