BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 P.M.) – Russian President Vladimir Putin described former double agent Sergei Skripal as a “scumbag” and “traitor to the motherland” while speaking at the 2nd Russian Energy Week International Forum.
“Your colleagues are pushing the idea that Mr. Skripal is almost a human rights activist. He’s just a spy traitor. You see, there is such a thing as a traitor to the motherland. He’s one of them,” Putin said. “He’s just a scumbag, that’s all,” the president added.
Talking about the prospect of another round of American sanctions being imposed on Russia, Putin said “it would be good for us if those who want to impose sanctions would introduce all the sanctions that can be imposed as soon as possible. This would give us a free hand to defend our national interests in the way that we consider to be the most effective for us.”
