Russian/Syrian airstrikes in Aleppo

The Russian Air Force supported by the Syrian Arab Air Force continued the unrelenting aerial campaign over Aleppo city and its countryside mainly targeting jihadist positions in Bani Zaid, Handarat, Al-Mallah farms, and other areas in the vicinity of the Castello highway.

This coincides with reports of mass mobilizations by the Syrian army and its allies on the Aleppo fronts. The main forces preparing for this upcoming critical offensive are the Syrian Army’s 4th Mechanized Division, the Tiger Forces, Liwaa Al Quds (Palestinian paramilitary force), and Hezbollah. It is unclear when the anticipated offensive will precisely begin, but judging by the ferocious airstrikes targeting north Aleppo, it could begin at any moment.

On a separate note, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah generously talked about Aleppo and its significance in the Syrian war during his speech on Friday.

The only way this is going to work is if they use far more infantry in the attack and far more artillery. When the rebels retreat under fire, the Syrian forces must hold the newly taken positions against counterattacks. They are going to need more men and more heavy weapons in the newly taken positions and they are going to have to entrench quickly and stand their ground. Artillery must be ready to shell avenues of counterattack continuously for days or weeks if necessary. If this offensive fails to cut the supply lines to East Aleppo, it will have been… Read more »
