DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:10 P.M.) – On Saturday, Amaq Agency released two rare videos of urban fighting in the Old City of Mosul, depicting ISIS insurgents conducting an ambush and using automatic rifles against the Iraqi Army.
Earlier today, the Iraqi Army’s Federal Police, Counter Terrorism Units, 9th Division and Rapid Response Division imposed full control over the Ibn Sina hospital and adjacent blood bank, capturing massive amounts of ammunition in the process.
Due to the latest advances, government forces are left in full control of all western sectors of the Old City along with its central residential areas. However, ISIS fighters are still present in a 300 meter corridor running along the Tigris River.
Although ISIS has been expelled from roughly 75% of its last Mosul neighborhood, the so-called Old City, a number of dead government soldiers and captured armaments were shown in the newest Amaq footage from Iraq’s second largest city.
In a related bulletin by the ISIS outlet, 58 Iraqi soldiers were claimed dead and 6 armored vehicles destroyed over the past 48 hours in Mosul.
Despite Amaq Agency hinting to the contrary, the battle for Mosul is expected to end within the next 48 hours in an event which would free up around 50,000 Iraqi troops for duties elsewhere in the country.
