BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:25 P.M.) – Soldiers of the Iraqi Army’s 15th Division have leaked footage showing the aftermath of a battle between their unit and ISIS for a village in Mosul city’s far western countryside.
According to reports, soldiers of the 15th Division operating in a rural region to the west of Mosul city hunted down a platoon-sized formation of ISIS fighters, surrounding them in an undisclosed village and then storming it.
In the ensuring firefight, the Iraqi Army killed 28 terrorists who refused to surrender.
The casualties suffered by the 15th Division remains unknown at this time and will probably never be revealed. In any case, it appears that Iraqi forces completely had the upper-hand in the battle and their losses were most likely significantly lower.
The battle stands as a testament to the intensity of even local-level engagements between Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and ISIS whereby dozens of fighters can be wiped out in a single, very brief firefight.
As of the present time, there remains a massive ISIS pocket to the northwest of Mosul city in the region of Tel Afar. Within this pocket are an unknown number of Islamic State fighters who – now jammed between Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi lines – have escaped one encirclement only to get trapped in another.
