Hundreds of people rallied in the Golan Heights town of Majdal Shams on Saturday to denounce US President Donald Trump’s statement to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the occupied territory.

Protesters were seen holding Syrian flags and Druze flags.

“From here we say that the Golan [Heights] is Arab and Syrian and neither Trump nor any other person can decide its fate. The word that matters the most on the Arab land of the Golan [Heights], at first and last, is the word of our heroic Syrian Arab Army,” said protester Haiel Sharaf.

“He wants to give Israel land, he can give them one or two of his states in America,” said protester Adnan al-Safari. “But al-Golan has its own occupiers, Israel or any other state cannot take it.”

On Thursday, Trump posted a statement on Twitter, saying that the US would recognise Israel’s occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights, a territory the Israeli state captured from Syria in 1967.

DBs, Man, You´re really good in your agit-prop deception work…. As I said before, You should ask for a raise to your bosses ! I quote from memory, one day looked like Golda Meir said that being realistic one should believe in “miracles”…. Turning the desert green was no miracle at all, You know this for sure very well… It was a matter of billions invested, period! Billions sent to Israel by the national Israely-like capitalists from several western countries…The ones which relentlessy funded de experience of the Israel “kibutzes”…. No free meals, no “miracle” whatsoever ! You also know… Read more »

Golan Heights are 1,200km², Israel has already 6,020km² occupied by Arabs and is only, including these, the size of Massachusetts. If Syria, which is 6x the size of Israel, but has 2 thirds of its area being a desert…

I would say the doggie wants to rule the world but not Syria or Iran. Iran has been sanctioned illegally and immorally. I would add its economy is hurting due to AIPAC Dual citizens/ Zionists and no fault of its own.

I do not see alternative energies as valid replacements for oil. Sure they have certain applications or niches but oil is King.

@Daeshbags-Sux, the waters from the Golan and Sinai make Israel green. The produce that water for the basin – no matter how good the Israeli irrigation systems are.

Israel is not the leaders in technology. Israel is purifying Salt water and the effects are unknown. Israel is getting fresh water from the Golan so why would Syria want fake water when they have the Golan. Why does Syria need the desert for food production when they have fertile crescent, the bread basket of the Middle East? Newsflash the five year drought is over and the Spring at Palmyra is flowing again.

@Daeshbags-Sux, The Golan was part of the Vilayet of Damascus until it was transferred to French control in 1918 as part of the French Mandate of Syria, while the Sea of Galilee was placed entirely within the British Mandate of Palestine. The Golan’s 1200 km² are a prime source of water. The fight for the water began before 67 and was one of the causes for the war. Besides that the area it is a strategically important highland. Annexation of land is outlawed by UN Charter and Geneva Conventions. The Golan has no significant Jewish population. By 2010 the Israeli… Read more »
