BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:00 P.M.) – German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, today, to discuss a wide-variety of issues, including the ongoing war in Syria.
At the top of their Syria discussion was the use of chemical weapons inside the country and ways they could halt the use of such attacks in the future.
“There are different ways to participate to help ensure that chemical weapons are not used there and that none are even present,” Maas said, citing Germany’s expertise in disposing of such weapons, as quoted by the Reuters News Agency.
Maas said that the U.S. and Germany are working to push for a political settlement in Syria, as well as a new constitution
Recently, the Reuters News Agency leaked a document that said Germany was planning to halt all military flights over Syria and Iraq.
The Germany Air Force will reportedly halt these flights by next year; however, no reason was given for this abrupt move.
