Both Germany and Russia have expressed interest in ensuring that the Geneva peace process on Syria continues and becomes effective, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following his talks with his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, on Thursday.
“We talked about Syria as well. We have a common interest to make sure that the Geneva process gathers momentum and becomes permanent and, most importantly, effective,” the minister said.
“Meetings in Astana are rather useful” he highlighted.
“We expect that coordination of action on the Astana and Geneva platforms will help to simultaneously advance on strengthening the ceasefire, and on the path of a political settlement”, Lavrov concluded.
