The Syrian Arab Army’s official Facebook page released a statement that the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) are reaching out to the Syrian Military Intelligence and other Syrian intelligence agencies to establish a cooperation.
Although the statement says it is from unofficial sources, Al-Masdar News can confirm that this cooperation was announced on Damascus based radio stations Sham FM (92.3) and Al-Madina FM (101.5).
The Syrian Arab Army statement emphasised that it usually does not share unofficial stories, but has this time as it is most likely going to be confirmed in the near future.
It also stated from a source within the Syrian Military Command that Damascus it will not not engage in intelligence exchange unless the German government resume all communication with the Syrian government. This includes through embassies.
The online statement and the radio stations claimed that the BND want intelligence data on possible terrorist threats to Germany and the cooperation of the Syrian Arab Air Force and the German Luftwaffe, who could potentially engage in campaigns in Syria. This would include Syrian forces rescuing any downed German Air Force pilots. Syrian forces have demonstrated their skills in extraction as seen with the rescue of the second Russian pilot who’s jet was downed by Turkish aggression in November.
