DAMASKUS, SYRIEN (19:55) – Syrische Regierungstruppen starten eine neue Offensive gegen US-unterstützte Rebellenkämpfer in der Wüste östlich der Hauptstadt Damaskus.

Einer militärischen Quelle zufolge kam es am Freitag zu schweren Gefechten zwischen Regierungseinheiten und FSA-nahen Kämpfern der Gruppen “Ausoud al-Sharqyiah” und “Ahmed al-Abdo” nahe den Dörfern Bir Qassab und Dakwah. Die Dörfer befinden sich in der Wüste östlich des Internationalen Flughafens von Damaskus.

Die Offensive zielt unter anderem darauf ab das wichtige Tishreen Kraftwerk zu sichern. Das Kraftwerk war in den vergangen Wochen regelmäßig unter Mörserbeschuss gekommen.

Nach Angaben der Rebellen wurden ihre Stellungen sowohl von syrischen als auch von Russischen Flugzeugen bombardiert.

Weiter nördlich in der Wüste versuchen Armeeeinheiten derweil dem “Islamsichen Staat” weitere gebiete zu entreißen.
