The head of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, released a statement through his media team on Saturday that called out Hezbollah for their “destructive” policies in Lebanon.
In particular, Samir Geagea slammed Hezbollah for meeting with the Governor of the Lebanese Central Bank, Ri’ad Salameh, over the current U.S. imposed sanctions against the organization.
In a statement issued by Geagea’s media office, the LF Chief said that Salameh had no choice but to apply international bankings laws, despite going to extreme legal measures not to apply US sanctions arbitrarily.
“The one that should be most concerned in thwarting the danger facing Lebanon’s economy in this particular case should not be the Governor of Bank of Lebanon nor the incapacitated Lebanese government, but Hezbollah itself through a radical change in its domestic and foreign policies in a way that adheres to the interest of all Lebanese, including [Hezbollah’s] supporters.”
Geagea failed to see the logic in holding Salameh and the Lebanese government responsible for the repercussions of Hezbollah’s own actions.
“Must the Lebanese continue to pay the price of Hezbollah’s unilateral policies, of which [the people] have never approved?”
Geagea added that Hezbollah was “endangering” the Lebanese people with their “disregard” for political consensus.
