The Israeli regimes control on what is imported into and what is outported from the Gaza Strip has left Gaza’s textile industries workers in dispair.
Due to Israel’s 11 year ongoing siege of Gaza and the regimes endeavours to not allow Gazans the ability to be self efficient, most of Gaza’s industries have been suffocated.
New figures from Gaza’s textile industry now show that the number of clothing pieces produced per month is down to as low as 40,000 pieces, before the illegally imposed blockade it was four million pieces.
There are currently 165 companies in Gaza’s textile industry, employing 5,000 workers, before the siege the industry employed forty (plus) thousand workers.
The unemployment rate – in the most densely populated area of land mass on the planet (Gaza Strip) – is currently above 45% for adults and 60% amongst the youth.
