NNA – The Future Parliamentary bloc held its regular weekly meeting on Wednesday during which it approved MP Khaled Al-Daher’s request to have his membership be suspended.
Under the chairmanship of Future bloc leader, Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, the meeting dwelt on the circumstances which prevailed in the city of Tripoli in line with the nation-wide campaign to remove political slogans and pictures, as well as the stances that had been sparked by this campaign.
“Conferees have approved MP Al-Daher’s request to suspend his membership and would like to seize this opportunity to emphasize its unremitting commitment to coexistence, moderation, and rejection of extremism and militancy, as well as the bloc’s condemnation of terrorism and terrorist groups,” a statement issued in the wake of the meeting said, reiterating its commitment to the defense of freedom of expression, transparency and responsibility towards other national partners.
“The only flag that should flutter in Lebanon’s skies is the national flag of Lebanon– the flag of the Lebanese independence and national sovereignty.”
The Future bloc also congratulated the Lebanese on the occasion of Saint Maroun day; however, it deeply regretted having such a holy occasion take place in the absence of a Lebanese President.
“Significant and heavy risks are threatening our nation with the continuing vacancy of the presidency. This situation has incurred direct and indirect losses to the country, not to mention has exhausted the achievements of the Lebanese people and their success, which wouldn’t have been possible without a lot of blood, sacrifices, and strenuous efforts,” the statement added.
Marking late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 10th commemoration, the Future bloc reminded the Lebanese to adhere to the goals of the Cedar Revolution in defense of independence, sovereignty, freedom, moderation, tolerance, openness and unified values.
The party did not fail to remind of the importance of following-up on the work of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, “which is entrusted to detect the assassins of late Hariri and his colleagues to achieve justice and to prevent the continuation of impunity.”
Touching on the ongoing dialogue sessions between Future Movement and Hezbollah, the Future bloc MPs stressed their support to an agreement to abolish political slogans in the hope that this will contribute to reducing the level of tension in the country.
Also, the Future bloc highlighted the need to adopt steps and procedures capable of mitigating tension across all the Lebanese regions without exception, stressing the importance of limiting the proliferation of illegal arms, especially in residential neighborhoods, as this “affects the lives and security of citizens and the stability of their livelihood and progress.”
