İlham Ahmed, portavoz de las Fuerzas Democráticas Sirias (FDS), dio una entrevista al diario de Arabia Saudí al-Riyadh en la que hizo hincapié en el potencial de Arabia Saudí para una Siria “libre de enfrentamientos confesionales y tensiones étnicas” señalando que es posible una cooperación entre Arabia Saudí y las FDS.

İlham Ahmed acusó a Catar de apoyar a grupos extremistas de la oposición y no hizo referencia al inicial apoyo de los saudíes al autodenominado Estado Islámico y otros grupos islamistas como el Ejército del Islam. El socio más importante para combatir a ISIS es, sin embargo, Estados Unidos, dijo Ilham Ahmed al periódico al-Riyad,  la cual también calificó al gobierno sirio como un “régimen”.
