BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) – The Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched a big counter-offensive in the southeastern countryside of Damascus, today, after spending the last 48 hours on the defensive against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
Led by their Quraytayn Martyrs Brigade and Assoud Al-Sharqiyah Army, the FSA announced their counter-assault to recapture the Biyar Al-Saba area, Zaza Checkpoint, and large mountains overlooking Baghdad-Damascus Road in southeast Damascus.
Intense clashes broke-out, today, when the Free Syrian Army attempted to recover the territory they lost to the Syrian Arab Army; however, no gains have been reported thus far.
The Free Syrian Army needs to recapture the Biyar Al-Saba area in order to avoid being completely besieged by the Syrian Arab Army near the key desert town of Dumayr.
A military source from the Syrian Arab Army told Al-Masdar this afternoon that the Free Syrian Army has also attacked the Tishreen Power Plant in response to the government’s previous offensive.
