BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Tuesday that his country will strike Syrian government targets if the allegations of chemical weapons usage is proven.
“On chemical weapons, I set a red line and I reaffirm that red line,” Macron told reporters, as quoted by the Reuters News Agency.
“If we have proven evidence that chemical weapons proscribed in treaties are used, we will strike the place where they are made,” Macron continued.
However, Macron did state that his country has not yet confirmed that chemical weapons have been used.
“Today, our agencies, our armed forces have not established that chemical weapons, as set out in treaties, have been used against the civilian population,” Macron concluded.
