El 17 de Junio, 51 oficiales del departamento de estado han firmado un memo interno criticando la política de su país en Siria llamando a tomar acciones militares directas contra el gobierno de Bashar Al-Assad.

Inmediatamente la Casa Blanca emitió una declaración explicando de la dificultad de embarcase en un campaña militar contra la Siria de Assad, confirmando así que es improbable que el presidente Obama gire hacia una intervención directa.

Las razones tras dicha negación pueden ser explicadas en estos cinco puntos:

*El alto costo de una guerra tanto a nivel político como financiero.
*La profunda participación de estados regionales claves como Rusia e Irán en la crisis Siria.
*La imposibilidad de legitimizar una acción militar en el consejo de seguridad de la ONU por el veto de Rusia y China.
*No hay acuerdo por una zona sin vuelos.
*El crucial interés militar, político y económico de Rusia en Siria.
