Appointed or elected? A major should be elected by his town.

I asked myself the same question. Thus, in these complicated times, I’m not sure that institutions are able to run normally and it is a very symbolic point to have a woman as mayor of the biggest Syrian city and very likely a Christian one as “Carol” doesn’t sounds Muslim. It’s a good way to say f**k you to the fanatics and remind people that Syria is a secular country where women are just worth half of men but their equals so, even if appointed, it marks points.
