BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:05 P.M.) – Footage has been released by Free Syrian Army (FSA) social media showing militants of the FSA-linked Ahmad Abdo Martyrs Brigade throwing up a wall of artillery fire before advancing Syrian Arab Army (SAA) forces in Syria’s southwestern desert region.
The footage is the last known prior to the FSA desert-based faction being ejected from its final positions along the Syrian-Jordanian border by pro-government forces yesterday.
The video was taken at night and shows the Ahmad Abdo Martyrs Brigade loosing a heavy barrage of artillery fire at advancing SAA units. Although it can not be clarified, it is likely the case that the FSA factions used Grad rockets, 122-mm D-30 howitzers, 23-mm ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns and heavy mortars in their attempt to repel the SAA.
Despite the impressive demonstration of firepower, the FSA group was forced to flee across the Syrian border into Jordan. It will now likely rejoin other FSA desert-based factions operating in the al-Tanf area of Badia al-Sham further east, transiting Iraqi territory along the way.
