BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 P.M.) – An intense firefight broke-out this evening when the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) carried out a powerful attack against a group of Turkish-backed rebels in the Afrin region.
According to reports from northern Syria, a YPG sleeper cell attacked the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) 3rd Legion in the Afrin region town of Jalbal.
No details were released regarding the casualties both sides suffered during the firefight.
The YPG has recently launched several attacks against the Turkish-backed rebels in the Afrin region; this has resulted in dozens of casualties for the latter.
As a result of these attacks by the YPG, the Free Syrian Army has imposed a curfew throughout the Afrin region in a bid to crackdown on these sleeper cells.
