DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:10 P.M.) – Fierce battles re-erupted today in the southern province of Daraa as Islamic fighters resumed their attack on the government forces positioned in Al-Manshiyah district.
Led by al-Qaeda-affiliate in Syria, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, the militants initiated their offensive with detonating a VBIED inside the government-held parts of the district, killing scores of the government troops and forcing them to retreat.
Pro-jihadi accounts on social media reported that the militants used an explosive-filled hose for the first time during today’s assault.
A second VBIED hit another building for the Syrian Army in the same area.
Firefights broke out after the initial thrust whereby the Islamic fighters managed to seize three security buildings which served as HQ for the Syrian Army.
In response, the Syrian as well as Russian fighter jets carried out several airstrikes targeting rebel positions in the insurgent-controlled parts of the provincial capital.
Yesterday, several positions for the Syrian Army in the southern province of Daraa have allegedly come under attack by unidentified airstrikes.
