Fierce battles are now taking place around the key T4 airbase in central Syria as Islamic State militants launched a massive attack on government forces defending the base.
The offensive is described by a military source as the deadliest since the terror organization took over the ancient city of Palmyra on December 10th, thus posing a serious threat on the imperative airbase.
A field reporter told AMN that ISIS jihadists destroyed an Army tank and ammunition vehicle. Casualties reported.
Meanwhile, ISIS released a statement via its official social media account, Aamaq Agency, claiming to have shot down a Russian helicopter neat the airbase.
AMN hasn’t been able to verify this claim.
The extremist group desperately seeks to gain ground in central Syria before the elite forces conclude its military operations in Aleppo, where they are supposed to be relocated to the T4 frontlines.
