The prominent rebel commander “Khaled Abu Saqqar” has been reportedly killed on Tuesday by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in northern Latakia.
The rebel commander was killed while fighting with Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group); however, he was originally a member of the Free Syrian Army’s “Al-Farouq Brigades”.
His convoy was reportedly ambushed by the Syrian Arab Army along the road to the Kurdish Mountains (Jabal Al-Akrad) in northeastern Latakia.
Abu Saqqar is notorious for video taping himself eating the organ of a deceased Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldier in the Homs countryside in 2013.
The video went instantly viral and became the source of much scrutiny as the deceased rebel commander relished in the fact that the human organ he was eating belonged to an Alawi soldier.
Abu Saqqar’s death was first reported by several rebel pages – they commemorated his death and hailed him as a hero for his fight against the “Shabiha”.
