BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:55 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s most successful brigade is making their way from the Wadi Barada area of rural Damascus to the eastern suburbs of the capital.
A senior officer from the Syrian Arab Army told Al-Masdar on Saturday that the elite 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division has been redeployed from Wadi Barada to east Damascus in order to begin a new offensive to capture Barzeh and Al-Qaboun.
Joining the 42nd Brigade will be the 4th Mechanized Division’s “Special Mission Forces;” this unit often carries out military operations behind enemy lines in rural Damascus.
Previousl, the 42nd Brigade was involved in the successful offenses at Wadi Barada and Khan Al-Sheih; they were the main force leading these military operations.
The officer leading the 42nd Brigade is Colonel Ghiath Dalleh, one of General Maher Al-Assad’s most trusted officers.
The Syrian Arab Army has given the remaining militants in Al-Qaboun and Barzeh one last chance to surrender these suburbs before they storm these areas.
