BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:20 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division has received orders to redeploy to the northern countryside of the Latakia Governorate after a short deployment in southern Syria.

Led by the 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces), the 4th Armored Division will begin a new operation in the Latakia Governorate that will target the areas controlled by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP).

In particular, the 4th Division will target the strategic mountaintop town of Kabbani, which is considered one of the last major strongholds under the control of the jihadist rebels in northern Latakia.

The Syrian Army has attempted to capture Kabbani on a number of occasions in the past; however, each attack has been costly and repelled by the jihadist rebels.

Furthermore, the Syrian Arab Army wants to retake the last areas still controlled by the jihadist rebels in the Jabal Turkmen and Jabal Al-Akrad regions of northern Latakia.

If they are successful in this military endeavor, the Syrian Arab Army will overlook the entire Al-Ghaab Plain from its western axis.

Furthermore, they would have axis to the jihadist stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour, which is the source of most of the militant drone attacks on the Latakia province.

I would add Jisr Al- Shughour is the location of chemical weapons delivery and transfers.
