BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:30 P.M.) – Russian President Vladimir Putin held a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow on Monday, ahead of discussions on the Syrian crisis.
Putin said the bilateral talks are “symbolic, because these days the whole world remembers the victims of the Holocaust.” The meeting taking place two days after International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“Among the exterminated Jews by the Nazis, there were many citizens of the Soviet Union, Russia,” he added.
The Russian leader emphasised that Jews living in the Soviet Union “made a huge contribution to the victory over the Nazis.”
Netanyahu stated that “one of the main lessons of the whole history of the Nazi arrival to power, and defeat of Nazism is that it is necessary to prevent these kinds of evil.”
