BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 P.M.) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in as the head of state, by taking an oath at the Turkish Parliament in Ankara on Monday, after winning snap presidential elections two weeks ago.
Erdogan became the country’s first president after the April 2017 referendum on major constitutional changes, which came into force in these latest elections.
Shortly after taking the oath, MPs of the ruling coalition gave him a standing ovation, whereas opposition MPs sat in their seats, giving Erdogan no applause.
The ceremony ended with the Turkish national anthem.
