BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M.) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again slammed his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al-Assad while speaking at a press conference in Istanbul on October 27th.
During the press conference, Erdogan said Assad had killed nearly one million of his own citizens, which is a figure he has referenced on a number of occasions in the past.
“As far as we are concerned, Assad is someone who has killed nearly one million of his citizens. He is not someone who we hold in high esteem. Massacres continue as before, but it is our wish that this process comes to an end and the people of Syria can begin to live their lives again,” Erdogan said, as quoted by Al-Jazeera.
However, Erdogan backed of his previous demands of Assad stepping down, telling the audience that the Syrian people will have to determine his future.
“The people of Syria will determine the future of President Bashar al-Assad,” he added.
