BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:55 P.M.) – Elite Forces of the Syrian Arab Army maintain a steady advance in the southern countryside of Idlib province, shifting their focus east of gains made on Tuesday.
According to military-affiliated sources, combined units of the Syrian Arab Army’s elite Tiger Forces Division and 4th Mechanized Division – backed up by Syrian and Russian airstrikes as well as tremendous artillery bombardment – have secured from jihadist-led militias in recent hours the towns of Mashraft Al-Jouaan, Al-Darbiyah and Umm Sahreej.
In addition to the liberating the above-mentioned towns, Syrian troops also took control of the hilltop of Tal Al-Khalakhil and the Umm Sahreej train station.
Reports also say that since kicking off their assault this morning, Syrian forces have destroyed three armed pickups belonging to militant groups and killed 10 insurgents.
At the present time it appears that Syrian Army units are moving towards the jihadist-held cross-road town of Sinjar, perhaps as part of a greater operation to reach the Abu Duhur military airport.
