BEIRUT, LIBANON (15:50 Uhr) – Vor einigen Augenblicken gab es bestätigte Informationen, dass die irakische Luftwaffe in der östlichen Provinz Deir Ezzor in Syrien mit mehreren Luftangriffen Positionen des Islamischen Staates bombardiert hat.

Berichten zufolge haben irakische Kampfflugzeuge bislang mindestens fünf Luftschläge gegen den IS in Deir Ezzors östlicher Gegend ausgeführt.

Eine irakische militär-diplomatische Quelle sagt, dass Luftangriffe das Ergebnis eines neuen Abkommens zwischen Bagdad und Damaskus sind, wobei letzterer dem ersteren erlaubt hat, offensive Luftoperationen über syrischem Territorium durchzuführen.

Die Luftschläge sollen offenbar auf der Basis von Ermessen (d. H. Die Freiheit von Engagement) durchgeführt werden. Ihr Ziel wird es sein, präventiv die Konzentration von Kräften des Islamischen Staates zu brechen, die sich entlang der syrisch-irakischen Grenze mobilisieren und so die Wirksamkeit der grenzüberschreitenden Angriffe der Terrorgruppe auf den Irak verringern.
